Week 8 Blog Post: Assemble the Quilt Top

It’s Week 8 of the Save the Day Quilt-Along, and the finish line is in sight! This week, we’ll sew all the blocks, street sections, and sashing together to create your quilt top. Seeing the full design come together is one of the most rewarding moments of the entire process, and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this milestone with you.

Let’s gather everything we’ve worked on so far and bring it all to life!

What You’ll Need

  •  All your completed blocks: Police Car, Firetruck, Ambulance, and Street Blocks.
  • Sashing and border fabrics (pre-cut if possible).
  •  Your Save the Day pattern for assembly instructions.
  • Rotary cutter, ruler, pins or clips, and sewing machine.

Tips for Assembling the Quilt Top

  1.   Lay It Out First: Before sewing, lay out all your blocks and street sections to check the layout. Make sure everything is oriented correctly and balanced.
  2.   Work in Sections: Sew the rows or columns together first, then join them to complete the quilt top. This makes the process more manageable.
  3.   Pin Strategically: Use pins or clips at every seam intersection to ensure your blocks align perfectly.
  4.   Press as You Go: Press your seams open or to one side as instructed in the pattern to keep everything flat and smooth.

Celebrate Your Progress

You’ve come so far in this quilt-along, and this is the moment to step back and appreciate all the work you’ve put into your quilt. Whether your top is fully assembled this week or you’re still working on earlier steps, every bit of progress is something to be proud of.

Next Steps

Once your quilt top is finished, you can decide how to complete it:

  •   Quilt It Yourself: Use your sewing machine to quilt straight lines or free-motion patterns.
  •   Send It Out: Take it to a long-arm quilter for professional finishing.
  •   Keep It Simple: Tie your quilt for a quick and cozy finish.

Whatever you choose, this quilt is a reflection of your creativity and effort—be proud of what you’ve made!

Let’s Share and Celebrate Together
