RBD Block Challenge 2025 - Week 4: Twirl
Personal Insights: Bringing Community to Life with Twirl
As I stitched Twirl, I couldn’t help but reflect on how the block’s design symbolizes the joy of connection and togetherness. Its dynamic structure of Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) felt like a playful nod to collaboration and growth, which inspired my fabric choices.
For this block, I used prints from my It Takes a Village collection, which celebrates the warmth of community. The vibrant colors and textural details paired beautifully with the block's symmetry and movement, bringing a sense of harmony to the design. This block felt like a true celebration of creativity and connection!
This Week’s Block: Twirl
Twirl is a 10" x 10" finished block that combines HSTs and pieced rectangles to create a dynamic, flowing design. Fran’s clever arrangement offers plenty of opportunities for color play, making it both approachable for beginners and engaging for experienced quilters.
My Take on the Block
Here’s how I brought Twirl to life with my fabrics:
- Fabric Choices: I selected prints from my It Takes a Village collection by Riley Blake Designs. The cheerful florals and textural prints added depth and personality to the block.
- Color Contrast: I used a vibrant coral tone for the focal point and balanced it with subtle textural layers in soft greens and blues to keep the design grounded.
- Tips for Precision:
- Take your time when trimming HSTs to size—small details make a big difference.
- Press seams open for a smooth finish and accurate alignment.
- Use a rotating cutting mat to simplify the trimming process.
