RBD Block Challenge 2025 - Week 5: Flower Patch
Personal Insights: Blossoming Creativity with Flower Patch
As I pieced together Flower Patch, I felt like I was sewing a garden into my quilt. This block’s combination of Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) and Stitch-and-Flip (SNF) techniques made it a satisfying project to create, with plenty of opportunities for color play.
For my version, I turned to my It Takes a Village collection, pairing playful florals with cheerful hues to reflect the joy and growth symbolized by this block. The central square became the heart of my garden, tying the design together with a pop of vibrant coral.
This Week’s Block: Flower Patch
Flower Patch is a 10" x 10" finished block that’s as versatile as it is beautiful. Its combination of techniques, including HSTs, rectangles, and SNF units, offers a fun challenge for quilters of all levels.
My Take on the Block
Here’s how I brought Flower Patch to life:
- Fabric Choices: I used prints from my It Takes a Village collection by Riley Blake Designs, complemented by Confetti Cottons for a bright and harmonious palette.
- Color Placement: Vibrant coral and soft greens brought a fresh, garden-inspired vibe to the design.
- Tips for Success:
- When using the SNF method, draw precise diagonal lines to ensure crisp, clean corners.
- Take your time arranging the corner units to maintain symmetry in the final layout.
- Press seams open for a smooth finish, especially when working with layered seams.
