RBD Block Challenge 2025 - Week 13: Round of Applause
This week’s Round of Applause block by Amanda Niederhauser is such a delight to create! Its Stitch-and-Flip units give the design a lively, flowing energy that’s a joy to piece together.
For my version, I turned to my It Takes a Village collection, focusing on bright corals, cheerful yellows, and soothing greens to create a palette that felt as lively as the block itself. The result reminded me of the joy and celebration that quilting can bring to our lives.
A Closer Look at Round of Applause
Round of Applause is a 10" x 10" finished block featuring Stitch-and-Flip units, rectangles, and a central square. Amanda’s design balances symmetry and movement beautifully, making this block a standout addition to any quilt.
My Take on the Block
Here’s how I approached Round of Applause:
- Fabric Choices: I selected prints from It Takes a Village to combine bold tones and softer accents, creating a dynamic, celebratory vibe.
- Highlighting Movement: The angled units were the perfect opportunity to create a sense of flow, with bright colors drawing the eye through the design.
- Tips for Success:
- When using the Stitch-and-Flip method, mark diagonal lines carefully for precise angles.
- Lay out all units before sewing to ensure color placement enhances the block’s movement.
- Press seams toward darker fabrics to keep lines crisp and clean.
