City Toy Bins Sew-Along: Week 1
Welcome to the City Toy Bins Sew-Along! I’m so excited you’re here because this project isn’t just about sewing—it’s about creating something meaningful for your family.
Are you tired of toys scattered everywhere or looking for a creative way to encourage tidying up? The City Toy Bins are designed with you in mind. These bins offer a playful, imaginative solution to toy storage while giving you a chance to connect with your child or grandchild through the joy of sewing.
This week, we’ll focus on getting everything prepared so you can sew with confidence and ease. Let’s take the first step toward creating a charming toy village that’s as practical as it is fun!
What You’ll Be Making
The City Toy Bins are a functional and whimsical way to keep toys organized. Each bin represents a unique building in your very own “village,” sparking creativity and storytelling during playtime.
Here’s what’s included in the pattern:
- Fire Station
- Police Station
- Two Houses
- Bonus Market Toy Bin
Whether these bins are destined for your child’s playroom or gifted to a grandchild, they’ll add charm, organization, and a touch of magic to any space.
Week 1: Gather Materials and Cut Fabrics
This week, we’re setting the foundation for success. Here’s how to get started:
1️⃣ Gather Your Supplies
- Pattern: Ensure you’ve printed or downloaded the pattern.
- Fabrics: Choose something your little one will love! From bold colors to soft pastels, you can make these bins as unique as the child they’re for. I used It Takes a Village fabrics, but the bins look amazing with scraps or any favorite collection.
- Tools: Keep your rotary cutter, mat, ruler, and labels handy.
2️⃣ Cut and Label Your Fabrics
- Follow the cutting instructions provided in the pattern carefully.
- Label each piece as you go. Trust me—this simple step will save time and make assembly a breeze.
✨ Designer Tip: If you’re sewing with your child or grandchild, let them help by labeling the fabric pieces. It’s a fun way to involve them and spark their interest in the creative process!
Solving the Problem
We know toys can take over a home, making it hard to keep things tidy. These bins are here to change that! They’re not just storage—they’re a creative solution that inspires kids to clean up while playing. Imagine how excited they’ll be to put toys away in their very own Fire Station or Market Bin!
And for you? It’s a chance to slow down and create something meaningful that your family will use and love for years to come.
